Maude Baum
Choreographer, director, teacher and executive, Maude Baum opened her first school in 1963. Ten years later, after earning a Master's Degree in Dance and Related Arts and serving as an Asst. Professor at UAlbany, Ms. Baum and a small group of different genre artists founded eba. Ms. Baum's choreography has been called powerful, witty and irreverent. She has created over 30 full length works. Her work has been performed nationally since 1977 and internationally (Egypt, Turkey, Spain, Italy, Greece and Russia) since 1982. Her vision of dance is broad, as evidenced by works based on food, mother earth, Henry Hudson, The Shakers, evolution, Songs I REALLY Like, and the inner demons and passions of women. Her style ranges from classical Modern to Performance Art to collaborations with artists of other genre.

Ms. Baum is a pioneer in the field of Arts-in-Education. She consults with schools to change school culture, has created socially important works for students and their parents as well as programs to integrate curriculum through creative process.

Under her guidance, eba has grown from an artist’s collective to a vibrant arts center dominant in the revitalization of Albany's Lark Street . An international touring company, historic theatre facility, dance and movement school for adults, creative dance school for children, arts-in-education ensemble, and art gallery now fulfill eba's mission. eba is celebrating its 35th Anniversary.

Ms. Baum received the Regional Chamber of Commerce highest Women of Excellence Award, for Distinguished Career; was named Albany League of Arts Artist of the Year; and Metroland Magazine's Best Choreographer and Local Hero. Ms. Baum has received numerous awards and accolades from government, foundations, and business.
