Buddy Courtenay
Buddy Courtenay, Bass-Baritone, is a native of New Orleans, Louisiana. After graduating from Loyola University and Mannes College of Music, he continued his studies as an Artist in Residence at the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia, PA. Other resident artist engagements included leading roles with the Aspen Music Festival and the Austrian American Mozart Academy in Salzburg. Buddy has sung leading roles with opera companies around the United States including New Orleans Opera, Opera Theater of St. Louis, Nashville Opera, and Chautauqua Opera. He was a regional finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions as well as was a prestigious Time Warner Fellow. Opera credits include Don Basilio and Don Bartolo in Il Barbiere di Sivilglia, Colline in La Boheme, Leporello in Don Giovanni, Fredric Bhaer in Little Women, and Angelotti in Tosca. Buddy has also been featured as a guest soloist with the Chautauqua Symphony, Delaware State University Orchestra, and the Mystic River Chorale performing such great works as Haydn’s Creation, Handel’s Messiah, Faure’s Requiem and Puccini’s Messa di Gloria. Buddy currently resides in New York with his wife, Shalyn, and daughter, Hadley Rose.
